Kristjan Rosenberg and Daryna Sloboda overnight individual leaders after Day 1 in Lutsk
After stealing the show with fascinating high jump battle against his teammate Maicel Uibo, Kritnjan Rosenberg from Estonia summarized Day 1 on the top of decathlon standings with 4263 almost 100 scores ahead of reigning Heptathlon European Indoor Champion Jorge Ureña.
“Today I started pretty good with 10.95 in 100m. As for the decathlon, I have really good jumps. A bit over a centimeter, I think, I will reach 7.50. The shot put was a bit disappointing because few months ago it was 14-15m and today was only about 13.20. High jump was great, I got the point I was expecting. Besides, I finally beat Maicel Uibo in high jump which I have never done before” – said Kritnjan.
Heptathlon was dominated by the Ukraine’s starlet Daryna Sloboda. Although claiming some problems with practicing sprint this year, the Heptathlon European U20 Championships Finalist found herself consolidating her lead with two season best results in the shot put and in the 200m.
“I am extremely demanding to myself. Looking back at the high jump event, I realise that I was really close. I wasn’t able to get over some trivia to reach the result I expected. Still, being on top overnight motivates me to improve and to do my best tomorrow” – reflected Daryna.
After four decathlon and three heptathlon events on Day 1 at European Combined Event Team Championships Super League, team ranking is confidently led by Estonia with overnight runner-up Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Ukraine, currently third in the team standings, still challenging the leader.
